Ice climbing in the French Alps Home > Climbing > Ice Climbing

Until recently the Tarentaise valley has been under exploited by ice climbers. However several guide schools have recently established themselves in the valley, and more people are coming to explore its varied routes. The Vanoise National Park is a beautifully preserved national park which between December and March has plenty of falls and gullies to suit ice climbers of all abilities. For around 270 Euros we can arrange for you to have a guide to take you out and show you the local routes which include:

* La Daille - a short climb great for learning the ropes.
* La Raie - a 200 m grade 3 and 4 ice fall which is ideal for a first long climb.
* Les Lanches - 100 m grade 3 and 4.
* Rogers Valley - a technical site where you can improve your technique.
* Grand Bleu - a grade 4 long climb.
* Bonneval - a 140 m grade 5 long ice fall.
* Voile de la Mariee - a grade 5 ice fall.

If you prefer you can take a 5 day course for around 600 Euros which includes transport, all technical equipement (Ice axe, crampons, harness, helmet, shoes), a guide, and as much tuition as you need. Just let us know what your requirements are and we can find you the ideal package.
