Chris Cracknell and Lucy Hughes set up Chill chalet in 2001 to provide a unique service =
Affordable catered accommodation on a nightly basis.
After setting up to cater for up to 8 people in an apartment in Bourg st Maurice that could stretch the phrase "shabby chic" to the limit, with boundless enthusiasm and a love of good hospitality, great food and sense of adventure, Chillchalet was born. Our early guests were mostly younger snowboarders, and our rate was £18 a night, but then our philosophy started attracting people from all walks of life who wanted the homely feel of a catered chalet holiday with the flexibility of a nightly hotel.
In 2003 we rented a smarter apartment in Bourg st Maurice and rented a chalet in Morzine, and ran both for two years. After several seasons of poor snow and dealing with having to get the bus to the lifts in Morzine we decided to give up the chalet there and instead bought our current chalet in Bourg st Maurice. We still wanted a second option for people so took on another rented chalet in Montchavin in La Plagne.
We loved the village but after two seasons of struggling to get our landlord to bring the place up to the quality we required we gave it up in 2010 and have decided to concentrate all of our efforts on our own chalet in Bourg, which is now in it's sixth year.
We have always been the only chalet company to take bookings on a nightly basis for a fixed year round price. People love it, because it means they can book shorter breaks, or stay for a bit longer.
Our principles may not have changed over the years, but the accommodation certainly has. We have invested a lot in our chalet over the years and improved our service based on the feedback from our guests and staff. We now offer some of the more usual chalet holiday trimmings, like providing cakes and biscuits, puddings and wine with dinner, but in a Chillchalet way, so we don't insist that our poor staff have to come home early to put a cake out for you, or that you will want to rush home early yourselves to get some before it runs out, but have limitless cakes and biscuits in tins for you to help yourself to at any time.
We still offer great value for money and level of flexibility which are unknown in typical chalet holidays, attracting people who know their own minds and value our sensible customer focused approach.
"Thanks for doing what you do nightly. It's really opened up skiing for us because we can only come during the week so thanks again". The Askleys
