* Crossing the channel with a vehicle * The route from the French side of the channel to the Alps * Finding our chalets once you arrive in the Alps If you are bringing lots of large equipment like snowboards, bikes or canoes this is definately your best option because airlines charge a fortune in excess for large items, and insurance companies often charge premiums if expensive equipment is being taken on a plane. It takes between 12 and 15 hours depending on your vehicle and if there are a few of you it can be the cheapest way to travel. French motorways are quiet and it is well worth paying the 25 Euros or so it costs to take the toll roads because they are much quicker. Avoid Saturdays though because that is when package holiday companies transport all their guests and the traffic is hellish. |
