There are hundreds of walks and hikes around Bourg-st-Maurice and Les Arcs. We have maps and guide books in the chalet and most of the routes are well signposted. Here is some information about a few of the walks to get you started.

Les Deux Tetes Walk

Altitude: 1730 m - 2384 m
Duration: 1h00
Vertical incline: 584 m

This walk gives splendid views over the whole of the Haute-Tarentaise region. Start at Arc 2000 and follow the lane behind the UCPA building and take the road on the left that goes through the Malgovert forest. First of all you will find a forest road on the left that leads to the road to Arc 2000, another on the right that leads to a ski run and another going towards the road to Arc 2000. Take the path on the right that leads towards the Mont-Blanc and Deux Tetes ski runs. At this last section the path goes though a pine forest. You will be able to see the Adret slopes, the Roignaix massif (2995 metres), the Petit-Saint-Bernard mountain pass, the aiguilles du Clapet (2615 metres) and Lancebranlette (2936 metres). Return the same way.

Tour of the lakes Walk

Altitude: 2000 m - 2574 m
Duration: 2h00
Vertical incline: 574 m

Start in Arc 2000 at the entrance to the resort (next to Club MÁditerranÁe). Walk through the shopping centre and follow the track towards the chalets de lŒArc and the little Saint-Jacques chapel. Take the footparth marked "Circuit des lacs" which goes under the Saint-Jacques chairlift and takes you to the lake of the same name. Walk up under the Dou de lŒHomme chairlift and carry on along the mountainside towards a small projecting ledge overlooking the lac de lŒHomme (lake). Carry straight on. The path on the right leads down as far as the lake. The path then meets a track suitable for vehicles that leads to the lac Marloup. Next take the track on the left hand-side that leads to the lac de Moutons (2574 metres). You will have beautiful views over the BellecÍte mountain range, the Aiguille Rouge (3227 metres) and the Italian side of the Mont-Blanc with la Dent du GÁant, les Ar‘tes de Rochefort and les Grandes Jorasses on the right. Return the same way, or by walking down the piste.

Refuge Robert Blanc Walk

Altitude: 1950 m - 2750 m
Duration: 2h00- 2h30
Vertical incline: 800 m

It is best to take a map with you on this walk - we can lend you one of ours. The Robert Blanc refuge is located in a stony area in the high mountains. It is accessible to all and boasts a unique panorama over the Vanoise national park and the Oisans region. Robert Blanc was a high mountain guide and one of the founders of the resort of Les Arcs. Guy Rey-Millet was an architect and close friend who created a refuge in his memory on this unique site. To access this walk you need a car, or we can arrange to take you up to the setting off point. From our chalet in Bourg take the left at the roundabout and follow signs for Cormet de Roseland (D902). After about 10 kms turn right towards les Chapieux. Go though the village of les Chapieux and carry on along a narrow road which overlooks the Glaciers torrent. At the place known as les SÁloges, carry on towards the Ville des Glaciers (the last section of this road is not tarmacked), and follow the road right up to the end where you will see the Lanchettes car park. You can see the refuge from here. The path leading to up it passes on the left hand side of the farm then continues alongside the Lanchettes stream (beautiful waterfall). You will reach a projecting ledge at the foot of the glacial moraines that are overlooked by the Mont-Tondu, which are covered in rhododendrons all along the side of the stream. Turn off to the right here and walk alongside the red rocks to the refuge. Head back along the same route. It is possible to stay overnight at the Robert Blanc Refuge. If you would like to do this let us know in advance and we will book it for you.

Les Cinq Lacs Walk

Altitude: 1993 m - 2532 m
Duration: 2h00 to reach the 5th lac
Vertical incline: 539 m

You can walk all the way from our house, but it takes 5 hours, so if you want a shorter walk it's advisable to drive up part of the way. Take the Cormet (mountain pass) de Roseland direction at the roundabout near our chalet. After Le Chatelard, turn left towards les Echines. Go past the fort du Truc and follow the track that leads towards the fort de la Platte. The track is not tarmacked but has authorised car parking at the fort. When you leave the fort, about 300 metres down the lane take a well marked footpath on the right that overlooks the Chardonnay valley. You should reach the 5th lake in 2 hours. It is situated in a pretty plateau with a beautiful view over the Tarentaise region. Return by the same route.
